Become a volunteer...

Do you have some free time and enjoy helping people? Are you interested in ships and seafarers, how the oceans have shaped our history, the future of the sea, or simply in museums? Would you like to become part of our dedicated team of volunteers?

As a volunteer you will become an important part of the Museum, supporting our work and enhancing the experience of our many visitors. Most of our volunteers work at our Reception Desk, welcoming visitors and manning our small shop. But we are also looking for people to work with our archives and the more physical side of maintaining and enhancing the museum.

Perks of volunteering....

Our crew of volunteers are highly valued members of the Museum team. They contribute to the successful running of the Museum. We are extremely grateful for all the support our volunteers provide but we are always keen to encourage others to join us and you can help in a variety of ways. Becoming a volunteer couldn’t be easier and you also benefit from all of the below:

  • A chance to meet interesting people
  • A name badge
  • Free tea and coffee
  • Flagstaff, our occasional newsletter to volunteers
  • A free copy of our annual Heritage magazine
  • Free parking while on duty
  • Free entry to the Museum for yourself and your immediate family

Don’t worry if you don’t have previous experience volunteering for a museum, as full support and training will be given.
